What changed
Day 1: the slab was diamond-ground and repaired, then a thick epoxy base coat went down with a full gray flake broadcast. Day 2: the excess flake was scraped off and a clear polyaspartic topcoat sealed it in.
The result is a floor that reads as one finished surface from the door to the back wall, including the step and the base of the walls.

Here is what happens when you contact us, and what each of the two install days is for.
Call or email with the basics
Tell us where you are, what kind of space it is and roughly how big. Photos of the concrete help.
Get a free estimate
We look at the slab, talk through cracks, moisture and the finish you want, and give you a price with the scope spelled out before anything is booked.
Day 1: grind, repair, epoxy base coat and flake
We diamond-grind the concrete to open the surface, repair cracks and pits, roll on a thick epoxy base coat and broadcast the flake to rejection. The epoxy cures overnight.
Day 2: scrape and polyaspartic topcoat
We scrape and vacuum the excess flake, then apply the clear polyaspartic topcoat that locks the flake in and gives the floor its resistance to hot tires, road salt and spills.
Cure times and care guidance
Walk-on, move-back-in and drive-on times depend on the topcoat and the weather. You get them for your floor before we leave, along with how to look after it.
Why two days
Why we install a 2-day system instead of a one-day coating
A one-day coating is thin and fast. The 2-day system takes the extra day because the epoxy base coat cures overnight before the topcoat goes on, and that is where the thickness, the bond and the moisture tolerance come from.
A thicker floor with a real epoxy base
A true epoxy base coat builds far more film than the thin polyurea primer in a one-day coating, so there is more floor between your concrete and daily wear.
A stronger bond to the concrete
Diamond grinding opens the slab and the slow-curing epoxy soaks into it, instead of sitting on top of dust and old sealer.
Better tolerance for damp Michigan slabs
Epoxy is more forgiving of moisture in the concrete than fast-cure coatings, which matters on garage floors that see snow, salt and spring thaw.
A polyaspartic topcoat that wipes clean
UV-stable so it holds its color, and it stands up to hot tires, road salt, oil and spills that would soak into bare concrete.

Where does House of Epoxy work?

What is a 2-day epoxy system?
A two-day floor uses a thick epoxy base coat on Day 1, with decorative flake broadcast into it, and a clear polyaspartic topcoat on Day 2 after the epoxy has cured overnight. One-day coatings skip the epoxy and use a thin, fast-curing polyurea base so the whole floor goes in and cures in a day. The extra day buys a thicker floor, a stronger bond to the concrete and better tolerance for moisture in the slab.
How much does an epoxy floor cost?
The price depends on the size of the floor, the condition of the concrete, the prep and repairs it needs and the finish you choose. The estimate is free, and the scope is spelled out before you decide.
How long does installation take?
Two days on site. Day 1 is diamond grinding, crack repair, the epoxy base coat and the flake broadcast, and the epoxy cures overnight. Day 2 is scraping the flake and applying the polyaspartic topcoat. When you can walk on it, move things back and park depends on the topcoat and the weather, and we go over those cure times for your project.
Can you coat cracked or worn concrete?
Often, but we need to see it first. Surface wear and minor cracks are normally handled during prep. Deep cracks, movement or ongoing moisture can limit what a coating can do, and we will tell you before work starts.
Do you coat basements, barns and workshops?
Yes. Garages are the most common project, but we coat basement, barn and workshop floors too. How the space is used and the condition of the slab shape the approach.
